SsangYong Sports Ute Outranks Most Other Utes In Latest ANCAP Assessment

- MINOR MODIFICATION UNDERWAY TO ACHIEVE 4 STAR RATING

Ssangyong's Actyon Sports ute has outscored some of Australia's best selling utes in the latest ANCAP crash tests gaining an overall 3 star rating with a score of 24.49 points, the maximum score available for the three star rating.

Ssangyong Australia is now working closely with ANCAP and Ssangyong engineers to implement improvements to the Actyon Sports ute, a factor which Ssangyong is confident will give the vehicle a 4 star rating.

According to the ANCAP tests data on their website, the Actyon Sports ute gained a better score than all other 3 star rated utes including the Nissan Navara, Holden Colorado, Isuzu D Max, Ford Ranger and Mazda BT50.

Ssangyong is now focussed on completing the product enhancement and hopes to have the Actyon Sports ute re-assessed early in 2011 so that it can join Toyota's HiLux and Mitsubishi's Triton as the only other 'non-passenger car based' utes with 4 star ratings.

According to Ssangyong Australia general manager, Jeff Barber, the company is eager to implement the necessary changes to give the Actyon Sports ute an even higher rating and to give customers increased confidence in the car and the brand.

"Its significant that the Actyon Sports Ute out ranked so many of the leading sellers in the ute market with its ANCAP score but we are keen to make the vehicle even safer and gain the 4 star rating," said Jeff Barber.

"We are pleased that ANCAP has identified an area that may be relatively easy to implement to improve the crash rating score and our engineers will be working hard to achieve this as quickly as possible," said Jeff Barber.

"The reality is the Actyon Sports Ute is the best of the 3 star utes on the Australian market and very close to achieving 4 stars and this puts the vehicle in very good company making it a much better prospect for buyers," he added.

The hardworking and versatile Actyon Sports Ute represents one of the best value vehicles in its class, offering advanced turbo diesel power, a class leading six-speed transmission and the best ride quality in the category.

The Actyon Sports Ute's advanced Australian built six-speed automatic transmission helps the two-litre diesel turbo deliver even greater flexibility and economy on the road.

It also boasts four wheel disc brakes and ABS anti lock brakes, while its coil rear springs are unique amongst dual cab utes delivering a quieter and smoother ride without compromising load capacity.

The common rail diesel engine is a highly efficient Euro IV power plant, delivering low emissions and maximum power with a flat torque curve over the widest possible rpm range for better acceleration both when starting and passing.

Like the rest of the Ssangyong range the Actyon Sports Ute is exclusively diesel powered with the two-litre turbocharged engine generating maximum power of 104kW at 4,000rpm and maximum torque of 310Nm/1,800rpm making it ideal as a tough workhorse or a smooth and quiet everyday drive.

Standard features include steering wheel mounted controls, engine immobiliser and alarm, remote keyless entry system and a protective tub liner.

The Actyon Sports Ute is currently on sale across the range for a limited time and is extremely competitive with the Sports Ute Tradie 4x2 starting from $23,990 for the five-speed manual and $26,990 for the six-speed auto. The 4x4 Tradie is priced from $26,990 for the manual and $29,990 for the six-speed auto.

Tradie comes standard with driver and passenger SRS airbags, air conditioning, electric windows, electric heated mirrors and remote central loading.

The standard 4x2 Sports Ute manual starts from $27,990 and $30,990 for the six-speed automatic while in 4x4 configuration the manual is priced from $30,990 and the six-speed auto from $33,990.

Standard equipment on the mid-range Sports includes all of the Tradies features plus ABS and EBD, locking rear differential (4x2) 16inch alloy wheels, leather steering wheel and gear knob and cruise control (auto only).

Topping the Sports Ute range is the SPR version, offering maximum equipment levels at the affordable price of $38,990 including 4x4 and six-speed automatic as standard along with a swag of other standard features.

Along with the standard features from Tradie and Sports the SPR is equipped with full leather trim, heated front seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, climate control air conditioning and reverse sensors.
